Rising Brooklyn artist, J.I. (formerly known as J.I. Prince of New York), released a new melodic, heart felt single and music video, “Letter 2 U,” where he declares the mistakes that end a relationship in a modern-day love circle. Directed by Kid Art, the visuals share a symbolic reference of Greek mythology statues, fire and other elements that represent the inner-pain, and expression of heartbreak with blended clips of being in his neighbourhood of Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
In July 2020, J.I. released his EP Welcome To GStarr Vol. 1 via G*Starr Ent./Geffen Records, where he infused his Hip-hop, song-bird style with Latin reggaeton beats introducing “Spanglish” featuring Myke Towers, and narrating in Spanish for the first time. In addition, he released top fan favorites that include “Painless 2” featuring Lil Durk and Nav and “In Love in the Club.” The EP gained support from Spotify who chose him to be the second artist on their RADAR program (helping share the stories of new emerging global artists with their users) and garnered recognition Billboard, Complex, XXL, ABC News, Pitchfork amongst others.
Recently, Vulture named J.I, “One of the top young rapper’s of New York City’s Next Generation.” J.I. continues to pave the way within his genre with his evolving sound and his popular EP, Hood Life Krisis Vol. 1, which includes his summer breakout single “Need Me.” The hit song helped place the bourgeoning artist on the map and today has reached gold status and Top 20 at Urban Radio.
J.I. will continue to release new music for his fans before 2021.
