Christmas gifts are a big part of what makes the season so exciting, but ultimately the real joy comes with the opportunity to spend time with family and friends – especially if it’s been so long since you’ve seen each other. And that’s the message behind ‘Please Come Back For Christmas’, the new festive song and video from Isla Croll. LISTEN HERE.
‘Please Come Back For Christmas’ is an instant Christmas classic, adding a new take on the tradition of all-time festive favourites such as Darlene Love’s ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ and Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. And much like those songs, the joy provided by Isla’s glorious vocals and the unmistakable sleigh bells is matched by an undercurrent of sadness of longing for a reunion with that special someone.
The song becomes all the more emotionally engaging with the help of its animated video. The story starts just a few days after Christmas, when a young girl heads to the rehoming centre to give a dog its forever home. There she meets Mungo, a dog that appears to have given up hope of ever being adopted. It’s love at first sight and soon they’re inseparable. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
But not all miracles are forever. Spooked by a storm, Mungo panics and dashes out of the house but can’t find his way back. The girl desperately tries to find him but as summer passes and winter sets in, it seems like Mungo isn’t coming back. Yet the girl has one final idea as to who might be able to help… It’s an immediately appealing short film with the potential to be developed into a longer form project.
Isla says, “I’ve really wanted to do a Christmas song and so when I got asked to do this song, I thought that this was the perfect opportunity. I had a lot of fun recording the vocals to this track and was given the freedom to experiment in the studio which was exciting. The result is something I’m really proud of and think it encapsulates the Christmas spirit”.
