Ingrid Michaelson has always been an artist with the ability to head in inspiring directions, whether she’s writing fan favourite original songs which took her up the charts with two Billboard Top 5 albums, interpreting the ‘Stranger Things’ narratives into music with the ‘Stranger Songs’ set and composing/executive producing music for the AppleTV+/Jim Henson Companypre-school series ‘Slumberkins’. Now an exciting new project gets underway as she has written the music and the lyrics for ‘The Notebook: The Musical’ which will come to Broadway in 2024. Today she shares her version of one of the upcoming musical’s key songs, ‘If This Is Love’. Listen HERE.
‘If This Is Love’ is a key moment of the narrative, the moment in which Allie realises (with more than a little self-doubt) that she’s falling for Noah. Ingrid’s songwriting captures the rush and confusion that Allie feels with tumultuous lyrics (“I’ve waited every day to feel the way I feel / Knots in my stomach, the kind that never heal”) and a flair for poignant, story-driven songwriting which is perfectly in tune with the world of musical theatre. The song was written and performed by Ingrid, and was produced by Ariza (Julia Michaels, Dua Lipa).
Ingrid says, “I’m excited to be releasing ‘If This Is Love’ from my upcoming musical ‘The Notebook’. The song has evolved over the years and this is the original version. It’s slightly different from what you will hear on stage, but I love that this very first incarnation exists for you all to listen to.”
‘The Notebook’ tells the story of Allie and Noah, both from different worlds, who share a lifetime of love despite the forces that threaten to pull them apart. With a book that has sold millions of copies worldwide and a film (starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) that’s one of the highest-grossing romantic dramas of all-time, the musical adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s ‘The Notebook’ comes to Broadway following a critically acclaimed world premiere at Chicago’s Shakespeare Theater in the autumn of 2022.
‘The Notebook’ will play at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, with previews beginning on February 10th 2024 ahead of its opening night on March 14th. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, September 26th at 3pm UK time. Please see HERE for tickets and further information.
