Indie Explosion: The Story of Britpop — the live music/documentary experience keeping 90s music affordable for all!
Featuring faithful recreations of The Stone Roses, Blur, Oasis, Pulp, and more, meet the team capturing the essence of Britpop at accessible prices amidst soaring concert costs.
Indie Explosion: The Story of Britpop is an electrifying concert/documentary show that offers a nostalgic yet affordable journey back to the heart of the 1990s Britpop scene. Scheduled to rock Liverpool at The Dome at Grand Central Hall on Friday 1st November, this unique production blends live music with documentary-style storytelling, showcasing faithful recreations of iconic bands like The Stone Roses, Blur, Oasis, and Pulp.
The idea for Indie Explosion was conceived by PNP Events, inspired by the success of 80’s tribute shows. As the 90s revival takes centre stage, PNP Events has crafted a Britpop spectacle that resonates with both old fans and new listeners. From the first love to the first heartbreak, Britpop anthems provided a soundtrack for many pivotal moments in people’s lives.
Louis Ford, vocalist, says “When the Gallagher brothers announced they were getting back together, we were over the moon – massive fans, like everyone else. But then the ticket prices started coming out, and it hit us: it’s getting tough for regular folks to afford a bit of nostalgia. We’ve been doing Indie Explosion for a while, and we pride ourselves on keeping it real and accessible. This isn’t just about reliving the good old days; it’s about making sure everyone can, no matter their paycheck. That’s what Britpop was about – music for the people, right? And don’t get me wrong, there’s no bad blood or judgement against Oasis or any band that’s got to charge what they do – it’s just the reality of the times we’re living in.”
The producers, PNP Events, aim to elevate the typical tribute act by achieving musical and visual authenticity. “We’ve all seen bands covering Oasis in local pubs, but with Indie Explosion, I wanted to take things a step further. It’s not just about hitting the right notes—it’s about recreating the whole vibe, from the swagger to the iconic Britpop fashion. Finding the right musicians was key, and when we did, everything just clicked. Adding those mini-documentary clips throughout the show was another touch I felt strongly about. They help tell the broader story of the 90s in Britain, giving context to the music and the era. It’s really about capturing the spirit of the time and sharing that warmth and connection with our audience.”
Billy Smith, guitarist, says “I’ve been in a signed band and even rubbed shoulders with some of the names we celebrate in this show. But I’ve never seen any crowd like the one we get coming to these shows! Nothing like it. These tunes are what they fell in love to, had their first pint to, got their hearts broken to. You see all sorts at our shows, from hard-geezer dads to young couples, all belting out the lyrics like their lives depend on it. Playing these songs, it’s not just a gig – it’s bringing back the soundtrack of their lives. It’s proper moving.”
Fans rave about the authenticity and energy of the performances. “This was such an amazing show! Danced and sang so much and felt so emotional and I wasn’t even drinking! Me, my husband and daughter absolutely loved it, the band were great and it brought back so many amazing memories. Will definitely recommend it to friends.” — Melody Arnold
