HANDS OFF GRETEL are the ferocious four-piece based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, who revive the white-hot rage of riot grrrl and grunge mixed with bubblegum pop. After a hugely busy and successful year which included releasing their highly acclaimed second album, I WANT THE WORLD, a largely sold out 38 date UK and EU tour, and appearances at major festivals including Isle of Wight, Kendal Calling and Y Not, the band have announced an end of year hometown show at BARNSLEY BIRDWELL VENUE on SATURDAY 21 DECEMBER.
The band have pulled together an impressive line-up for the night including AS SIRENS FALL, FRANK GRIMES & THE DISASTERS and ELOISE KERRY. They will also be supporting a local homeless charity on the night by encouraging fans to bring Food bank items and to buy raffle tickets for an exclusive album test pressing.
“We always like to end the year with a hometown gig,” says singer LAUREN TATE. “We only play a couple of times a year in Barnsley so it’s always really special for us and it already looks like we might be heading for another sell out despite the bigger venue this year. We are playing a slightly longer set as well, with songs from our first album, which we did at a recent London show and fans loved it.”

22-year-old Lauren fronts HANDS OFF GRETEL and has written both of the band’s albums as well as releasing and touring a solo album earlier this year on her own record label. She also designs all the band’s artwork and merchandise and is the creative force behind their DIY videos which have amassed over 2 million views on YouTube alone.
Speaking about the second album I WANT THE WORLD, Lauren says: “It feels like I wrote this album 6 years ago in a school toilet whilst skipping class and hiding from the world. I felt so ostracised and alone, like I didn’t fit in anywhere. It became my mission to sing for the outcasts, the weird kids, the ones that feel misrepresented in society and left behind like I do. I made it my obligation at 15 to make as much noise as possible as a young woman, to challenge everything.”
They have also announced a massive 38 date tour of the UK and EU, and perform at some of the UK’s biggest summer festivals …
