Sonically, the track maintains his signature soothing melodies and enticing rhythms that have hooked fans in since his gold-certified debut single ‘Cherry Wine’. The track channels a few blended genres, with hints of R&B, soft pop, and of course grentperez’s known alternative flare. Coming off the heels of his third single ‘Dandelion’ each single release for grentperez is steadily climbing the charts, with critical acclaim from fans and press alike. ‘Movie Scene’ proves that this new grentperez era is here, and it’s here to stay.

“I really wanted to change the pace a bit and hit some areas of music that I’ve always been interested in but haven’t written yet. This birthed ‘Movie Scene’, for me it’s reminiscent of 2000’s R&B like Lupe Fiasco or Usher, there’s a little vibey nod to ‘How Do I Breathe’ by Mario in there too, a song I listened to a lot growing up. ‘Movie Scene’ plays out the cliche of seeing someone you like and trying to find a way to ask them out while also referencing film classics like Titanic, Spider-Man, Dirty Dancing, etc. I like films. I like music. This is a mix of both of those,” says grentperez.

Fresh off his win as Emerging Songwriter of the Year at the 2024 APRA Awards, grentperez is now gearing up to make his full-length debut with Backflips in a Restaurant—a thrilling evolution of his roots as a bedroom-pop sensation, mixing elements of R&B, indie-folk, pop-punk, symphonic pop, ’70s soft-rock, and so much more into his most boldly original body of work to date.
