Swedish alt pop star GRANT has shared her new single and video ‘Tilt’ today, taken from her second full-length album ‘Truth & Consequences’, due May 20th via Sony Sweden. Stream here and watch the video below.
With a remarkable ability to transform the most intricate and complex human emotions with poise, ‘Tilt’ shows the progression of an artist truly in her element. Soft but striking, ‘Tilt’ harks back to the greats of 80s synth pop, whilst dancing with the complexities of multi-faceted art-pop.
About the track GRANT says “‘Tilt is a love song about sex and trust and how a person can make you feel safe and comfortable even in the most intimate and epic situations. With my back against his we create a mutual core and I think that’s really beautiful. “
The visuals for ‘Tilt’ capture the magic of GRANT’s sonics, and act as a metaphor for sex when you’re in love as a force of nature. Using scenic imagery side by side with shots of intimacy, the sensation of pleasure is elaborated. Speaking further, director Angelina Bergenwall says “Tilt is a depiction of the complete joy one can feel when having sex with someone you trust. It’s not necessarily empowering, or provocative – it just is. I do believe that sex can be so many different things I wanted to show sex in a more simple, easy but loving way. No fuss, just complete trust and pleasure.”
GRANT’S forthcoming studio album ‘Truth & Consequences’ illuminates the infinite complexities of human connection. “In many ways you start to see yourself for the first time when observed by another person,” says GRANT. “There are so many aspects of being close to someone I wanted to write about—like how sometimes I feel anxious or paranoid or annoyed or bored, even though everything with my partner is so lovely for the most part. They’re all very natural elements of a relationship, but I needed to give myself the space to understand that better.”
With its title taken from a remote New Mexico town GRANT once visited on a road trip with a friend, ‘Truth & Consequences’ examines what she sums up as “the consequences of our actions, and the truths I sometimes have difficulty sharing with my partner.” Recorded in Stockholm with co-writers and producers like Jonny Coffer (Lykke Li, Beyoncé) and Peter Kvint (Eagle Eye Cherry, a-ha) ‘Truth & Consequences’ matches its emotional intensity with a fantastically mercurial sound. In bringing the album to life, GRANT composed most of its songs on piano, then adorned each arrangement with a brilliant constellation of sonic details (frenetic guitar tones, radiant synths, potent drum-machine rhythms). At turns explosive and fragile, euphoric and operatic, the result is a body of the work that immediately envelops the audience in its enchanting atmosphere, and ultimately leaves them indelibly transformed by her daring self-revelation.
Having been nominated for a Swedish GRAMMY, secured support slots with Tove Styrke on tour as well as being named “Artist of The Future” from Swedish National Radio P3 (equivalent of BBCR1), GRANT has quickly proved herself as one of Europe’s finest exports. Her new album is the first full body of work to be released since her acclaimed ‘Vertigo EP’ released in 2020, lauded by UK tastemakers The Line of Best Fit, Dork, 1883, Music Week and Nothing But Hope and Passion for its innovative melding of pop with UK garage and early house music.
