Emerging as a vibrant force in Manchester’s indie music scene, Florentenes have today released their powerful new single ‘Fuel For The Flame’. Listen here.
The track marks the second release from their highly anticipated second EP, HOMEGROWN, due 16th May 2025, and continues the band’s momentum as one of the most exciting new acts of the year.
Fronted by William Smith (vocals, songwriting), Florentenes also features Luke Holding (lead guitar), Harry Stubbs (bass), and Liam Fiddy (drums). What began as bedroom jam sessions between Smith and Holding has evolved into a powerhouse band with a distinctive, anthemic sound.
‘Fuel for the Flame’ is one of the oldest songs in Florentenes’ catalogue, written by Will at 16 as an emotional outlet for the intensity of teenage years. “Simple words just can’t quite describe the melting pot of teenage emotions in the same way that music can,” he explains.
The track, shaped by David Bowie and Radiohead influences, came together naturally during early jam sessions between Will and Luke, featuring raw energy, soaring guitar solos, and an unfiltered sense of frustration and release.
Highly anticipated second EP, HOMEGROWN, due for release on 16th May, features songs that have so far only been blasted through the grassroots venues of Northern England, HOMEGROWN captures the full spectrum of Florentenes’ sound, from high-energy anthems to more introspective moments.
Speaking on the EP, Will says “Each song has a different story to tell and a different mood to display, the only constant is that we’re not afraid to show what we’re made of.” Harry adds, “For me, the EP is about showcasing a start of what’s to come to us; it’s about our beginnings and how we have grown as people through certain experiences.”
The band are set to headline Manchester’s iconic Deaf Institute on March 12th, marking a major milestone in their journey as one of the city’s most exciting rising acts. Beyond that, the Florentenes are gearing up for a run of live shows, including supporting The Guestlist and Red Rum Club throughout March, as well as festival slots at Liverpool Sound City, Neighbourhood Weekender, and more.
