SEASICK STEVE has had a long wait for his new album LOVE & PEACE to be released on 24 July. Originally planned for May, Covid-19 put paid to that along with all of the sold out shows and main stage festival slots that would have seen Steve on the road right now. The anticipation for the album has been building amongst fans and that momentum has continued with his recent singles picking up support from BBC Radio 2 and Virgin Radio, as well as a playlist at Planet Rock. Seasick now provides a further taster ahead of the album release by sharing his new single CHURCH OF ME.
With CHURCH OF ME, Seasick presents a hypnotic, foot-stomping story of a life lived entirely on his own terms, “Just want to go my own way, try to get free”. It’s a reflection of self-reliance and self-belief, encouraging others to find it within themselves to, “Just be your own self, that’s all you got to do”. Yet for all its bluesy reflection, the song also erupts into a fiery garage-rock explosion in which Malcolm Arison [The BossHoss] lets loose with a ferocious harmonica solo.
CHURCH OF ME is released alongside a video which focuses on Seasick performing on and around the striking coastlines of California and Australia’s Gold Coast. The eagle in the video just happened to fly by at the perfect moment.
The LOVE & PEACE album was produced by Seasick Steve, who also mixed the album with Vance Powell [Jack White, Chris Stapleton] while long-term musical companion Dan Magnusson contributed drums. The majority of the album was recorded in Los Angeles at Studio 606 and East West Studio 3, with additional recording taking place in Steve’s barn. The resulting record finds Seasick mixing up all of his much-loved ingredients to deliver a fresh new record that offers the perfect antidote for the troubled times in which we live. Full of hope for the future, it’s a great mix of boogie, blues, rock, Americana and folk, and all delivered in his unique style. It’s a sizzler of an album that he can’t wait to release.
The four singles taken from the album [‘Church Of Me’, ‘Carni Days’, ‘Clock Is Running’ and the title track] are all available as instant downloads with pre-orders of the album from Seasick’s official store at https://seasicksteve.tmstor.es/ as well as being available on all streaming platforms.
