Cherryade have released their ‘Sinking Ship’ EP, featuring new track ‘I Love Me’, and previous releases ‘Bang. Pop. Go Worldwide.’, ‘Feel Good’ and ‘Do My Thing’ which have received support from the likes of Billboard Pride, Spotify’s New Pop UK, BuzzFeed, Wonderland Magazine, Official Charts, BBC 6 Music and more.
With a more fun and positive tone, the EP sees Cherryade turning their backs on their usual witty political and socio-analytical lyrics (‘Theresa May’, ‘Houdini’), with Ella stating: “We didn’t want to focus too much on the shit storm we’re all in at the moment… both in terms of politics and the coronavirus. These are pop songs about feeling confident in the face of everything going on.”
Speaking on the new single ‘I Love Me’, Alex says: “It’s hard to go a day without being bombarded with scary, depressing news, or reading constant headlines about people being attacked for their race, sexuality or gender identity. That really weighs on me a lot, so we wrote this about believing in yourself whether you’re ‘different’ or just plain scared with what’s going on – hopefully it’ll help someone else keep their head up as well.”
With past lyrics about creepy priests, murderous gold diggers, and even politician Theresa May being a bullshitter; relentless independent British pop duo Cherryade definitely aren’t afraid to speak their minds and venture outside of the lines.
Outspoken, bold and colourful (to say the very least), Ella and Alex have gone from writing drunken teenage GarageBand demos to making fully fledged pop bangers with the likes of Ant Whiting (M.I.A., John Newman), Xenomania (Girls Aloud, Sugababes) and Lewis Gardiner (Ellie Goulding).
