Macclesfield 3-piece Cassia make their extremely welcome return with brand new single ‘Heat’. A powerful exploration of the push and pull between nostalgia and modernity, brought to life with the band’s sun-soaked sound, ‘Heat’ marks the first instalment in a line of exciting announcements due over the coming months – listen HERE.
With its summer soundscapes, ‘Heat’ captures the moment when the modern age feels like it’s creeping up too quickly. The track blends Cassia’s signature warm tropical sounds with a fresh edge, returning to their more expansive, live, guitar-first indie roots. The new track follows the success of their most recent Home Soon… EP and continues Cassia’s evolution as a band.
Lead vocalist Rob Ellis explains, “The moment that you realise that the modern age has crept up on you too quickly is a scary thing. At the time of writing ‘Heat’, I felt I was constantly having to adjust my mindset to adapt to a modern way of living, with a constant stream of information that is perfectly tailored to each of our tastes via social media. I found it hard to find moments of real genuine discovery, it felt like I’d done it and seen it all before. I think now that I’ve written it down on paper I’m back to being more in the moment.”
Cassia’s rise has been impressive. From their early days busking the streets of Cornwall to playing major festivals, touring the world and receiving critical acclaim from Radio 1, Radio X, The Independent, Clash & many more, the band has carved out a unique niche. Their sound, influenced by the Zambian music Rob’s father introduced him to, combined with the indie heritage of nearby Manchester, is a blend of tropical-tinged indie pop, combining the positivity of bands like Foals and Vampire Weekend, with the jazz-tinged afrobeats of Fela Kuti and Ebo Taylor.
Cassia have teased touring plans for next year by unveiling the UK cities they’ll be taking to, with more details to come. Before that, the band will support Crystal Fighters in November for 3 UK shows at Manchester’s New Century Hall, and 2 dates at Outernet London on November 5th & 6th. They will also embark on their first ever US & Mexican headline tour, as well as shows across Europe.
