Speaking about his new single Blood Related, Casey says: “Just because someone isn’t blood related doesn’t mean they can’t be family. It’s about love and acceptance like a brotherhood. It’s about inclusion, protection and friendship. It also tries to highlight how little you know about emotion until everything around is taken away and how a change in circumstance forces you to adapt and make new decisions”.
Casey’s new EP, Lekkerland represents an idea of a utopia, place, feeling, and emotion that speaks to good health and prosperity. The term itself is borrowed from South African slang for all things good and positive. Casey explains: ‘Lekker is Afrikaans slang for something that’s good. I hard to surround myself with people and things that I like and to build a good life; spending time with friends and family, my dog Bud, I surf whenever I can and I had a custom board made up with Lekkerland written across it which is at the centre of the EP artwork with a bunch of other things that mean a lot to me. Lekkerland’.
When Casey’s grandfather passed away in 2023, he left him a caravan – an old holiday home on the English coastline which contained a history Casey hadn’t previously thought about. When he arrived, moving in temporarily with his dog and removing himself from his usual, metropolitan surroundings, Casey found instant inspiration.
Casey Lowery has already toured extensively and since 2021, every tour that he has put on sale has sold out. Last year Casey played a fantastically received gig at London’s iconic KOKO, as part of a headline tour, in partnership with Music Venue Trust. He has also established rapidly growing audiences in Australia and South Africa, through repeatedly playing live in these parts of the world.
Growing up in Chesterfield, a market town in the English midlands as an only child with a penchant for the spotlight, Casey was exposed to and inspired by the greats of 00s English pop culture, including Robbie Williams and Arctic Monkeys. He initially played the clarinet, while developing his musical skills and tastes, before he started writing his own songs at 14.
