Singer-songwriter and multidimensional artist Ben Goldsmith has today released his highly anticipated sophomore album The Start of Something Beautiful. Listen here.
Speaking on the release, Ben said “The goal with this project was to have the most eclectic body of work I could produce, to show all the different musical angles and avenues I want to explore. I love so many different types of music. I love Ray Charles and I love Sam Fender and I love Led Zeppelin, so I just wanted to go for whatever I was feeling that day.”
A dynamic performer and prodigious talent, Goldsmith developed the new LP with celebrated creators such as Rick Nowels (Lana Del Rey), Alex Hope (Troye Sivan, Alec Benjamin) and Peter Fenn (Myles Smith, Deyaz) to name a few. Spanning heartbreak rockers, coming-of-age anthems, first love swooners, and more, The Start of Something Beautiful highlights Goldsmith’s once-in-a-generation musicianship and songwriting as the 18-year-old has writing credits on every track and produced nearly half the record. Highlighted as a noteworthy emerging artist by The Hollywood Reporter, the multi-instrumentalist also plays guitar, piano, lap steel, organ, mellotron, and bass throughout the project.
With his new album, the 18-year-old New York native steps onto the national stage with an impressive range of styles and influences and a mature sense of pop songcraft. Ben gave fans an advance peek into his sophomore project, with well received singles “Love Again,”“When We Said Goodbye”, “Wish We Never Met” and “Crazy”.
“I’ve been working towards this since I was 3 or 4 and I’ve never strayed. It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.” said Ben. That “thing” Ben’s referring to is making music – more than music, it’s lyrically-driven art free from genre, with a sharp point of view and melodies as strong as some of the teen’s many influences; Aerosmith, Dave Mathews Band, Elton John, Queen, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, and Bob Dylan. Along with contemporaries like Zach Bryan, Maggie Rogers, Steve Lacy, and Sam Fender help round out his style and his sonic influences.
Writing, singing, playing, producing every element of The Start of Something Beautiful reveals the dazzling growth in Ben Goldsmith’s work and the arrival of a major new talent. He may be advanced for his age, but he takes the most pride in the dedication and discipline that have gotten him this far this fast.
Fans can catch Ben Goldsmith performing songs from the album in London at The Courtyard Theatre, London on Tuesday 17th September.
