Ashley Singh is one of the freshest pop singers to come out of England’s capital in recent times. His new track ’17’ provides plenty for pop thirsty music fans as well as for indie lovers too.
Singing about a topic close to his heart, Ashley sings with genuine poignancy and his message is transparent with each word articulating well. But, it is not just smart syntax which makes ’17’ stand out. There is also a robust music foundation behind him which adds even more flair to his already nail-biting sound.
Starting is Ashley taking the lead with a strong vocal. ‘I Wish I Knew You When We Were 17′, is the opening hook and it cements his message instantly. The track gets even more bold as it progresses with plenty of heartfelt emotion gripping as it works its way towards the chorus.
Once, we are into the chorus; we hear all the instruments driving forward with flawless power. The guitar rhythm which also opens the track steps up too, and its gravitas is awe-inspiring. Cleverly, Ashley keeps versatile as a musician. He takes influence from the likes of Joni Mitchell, but yet adds lots of unique ingredients into the final mix. He often sways between softly sung melodies as well as adding grit with his choruses lines producing anthemic qualities.
Overall, it is a track which I find myself keeping on repeat. I am enjoying this new direction for the singer, and the upbeat tempo works wonders for his already famous signature mellow sound. Also, his vocals stand out bigger and bolder than ever before here, with him adding vast amounts of flair and expanding this popular genre.
