Every new track feels like a big moment for ascending dance duo AR/CO – from landing on Radio 1’s B-list with the Franky Wah collab ‘Under The Sun’ to scoring 20 million streams with Don Diablo on ‘Hot Air Balloon’ and joining forces with The Stickmen Project for ‘Tears In Ibiza’. Their own tracks are igniting too, with ‘Night Feels’ and ‘Call Me By Name’ picking up wide-ranging airplay from Sir Elton John, Gemma Bradley and Mistajam. And the best is yet to come, starting today with their brand-new single ‘Supersonic L.U.V.’. Listen HERE. Watch the visualiser HERE.
Bringing midsummer euphoria to the winter darkness, ‘Supersonic L.U.V.’ is a kaleidoscopic rush of irresistible pop melodies, incendiary drops and psychedelic-tinged dual vocals. And by the time the final cry of “L! U! V!” brings the song to a close, AR/CO have again delivered upon their mission statement to transport you from the routine of daily life to somewhere altogether more fantastical. AR/CO duo Leo Stannard and Mali-Koa wrote the song with its producers, Jonas Jurström(Rita Ora), Nick Henriques (Galantis) and Shaun Frank (The Chainsmokers) as well as solo artist The Nicholas.
AR/CO said, “‘Supersonic L.U.V.’ is our ode to being on cloud 9, or the honeymoon period. Someone who makes you wanna shout about it from the rooftops. It’s set in the days after you’ve been swept off your damn feet. It’s the perfect playlist, on the perfect day, with Daft Punk playing.”
Prior to forming AR/CO, Leo Stannard and Mali-Koa were both firmly established as songwriters and featured vocalists on tracks from the likes of Camelphat, G-Eazy, KC Lights and JP Cooper. They first met at a writing camp in London and shared such an immediate collaborative synergy that they vowed to team up again. That connection took two years to happen, delayed by both their hectic schedules and lockdowns, but it was worth the wait.
Formed just as lockdown restrictions were lifted, AR/CO set out to make music to soundtrack togetherness, unity and good times – all the things that were so desperately missing at the time. Their imaginations conjured up a winning formula: a meeting between MGMT and Daft Punk at a futuristic desert rave. Based in London, AR/CO’s sound has an international flair with subtle inspirations from their family backgrounds. Leo’s family lineage has roots in Trinidad, while Mali-Koa is an Australian with Maori herit
The AR/CO live experience is also beginning to make waves. They performed a Radio 1 Skyline Session on top of Broadcasting house with Franky Wah and also joined him at festivals including Creamfields and All Points East. They recently played their debut headline show at a packed Camden Assembly and supported Lemaitre at the O2 Academy Islington.
