Following on from the success of her debut EP ‘Never Too Far From a Dark Thought’, Liverpool based genre bending alt-pop artist Amber Jay is back with her latest invitation into her cinematic universe with new single ‘Equal’. A track that challenges that inferior feeling society’s version of normal creates. With a bouncy bedroom-pop synth sound that grows into dark alt-pop bliss, it highlights a pure natural progression for this young artist, and Amber’s ability to ignore boundaries in pure non-conformist fashion to make each genre her own.
“‘Equal’ is about feeling inferior because of who you are but being frustrated at the fact, you know you only think that through consuming societal norms your entire life. This then affects your opinion of yourself, which I think is so sad and one of humankind’s biggest failings. Within this shared frustration across so many minorities is power. ‘Equal’ also encompasses a feeling of unity and hope that between us we can at least find power within each other.” – explains Amber Jay.
With the previous success from her debut EP earlier this year, Amber Jay has gained support from the likes of BBC Introducing in Merseyside and Radio 1 along with tastemakers such as Earmilk, Gig Goer, Diva Magazine, Secret Meeting and more. While also securing major spots on Spotify Editorial playlists such as Salt, Fresh Finds: Pop and Rainbow UK, leading to Amber Jay’s EP gaining over 80,000 streams across all streaming platforms.
This fall sees Amber Jay hitting the live circuit heavily, having supported Tik Tok superstar Michael Aldag at his two sold out hometown shows at Liverpool’s Kazimier Stockroom, as well as his sold out London show at the prestigious Colours in Hoxton. Along with support slots with Jess Spink and more planned, it won’t be long until we see Amber Jay headlining her own.
