Amanda Holden shares her beautiful new duet ‘I Know Him So Well’ (from Chess) with musical star Sheridan Smith, featured on Amanda’s debut album, Songs From My Heart. This follows the huge news of Amanda’s first ever album and the release of emotional track ‘With You’ (from Ghost) earlier this month.
“I got a great friendship out of this song in Sheridan Smith”, says Amanda “I’d loved her for years and we’ve always hugged when we met but we didn’t know each other. I really wanted her to duet with me on ‘I Know Him So Well’ so I asked David Walliams for her number. She was heavily pregnant, but she couldn’t have been nicer or more enthusiastic when I called her, and the final result is better than I even imagined.
This is also the first single I ever bought for my mum who loved Barbara Dickson. We had all her albums and even though I have never to this day seen Chess, this is the song I’ve always loved.”
Originally performed by Olivier award winners Elaine Page and Barbara Dickenson in 1985, it remains the biggest-selling record ever by a female duo. This year, Amanda Holden and Sheridan Smith reveal their stunning version. The pair were brought together by mutual friend David Walliams. As shown in the official video out now, Amanda and Sheridan shared a love of singing and the collaboration for Amanda’s album naturally fell into place.
Sheridan Smith, known for her TV and musical theatre success, such as Cilla Black on ITV’s Cilla, and performing in West End shows such as Funny Girl and Joseph. Having never sung together before, the pair joined forces to create the only duet that features on Amanda’s debut album, making it a truly special collaboration.
Other beloved favourites on Songs From My Heart include ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ (Les Miserables), ‘Not While I’m Around’ (Sweeney Todd), ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ (Evita), ‘Somewhere’ (West Side Story) and ‘As If We Never said Goodbye’ (Sunset Boulevard).
Amanda Holden is undoubtedly one of Britain’s best loved entertainers – an Olivier Award nominated actress, singer, radio presenter on Heart Breakfast, author and judge on the UK’s biggest television show Britain’s Got Talent. Her multitude of talents, warmth and fun-loving personality have won her a loyal army of fans across the globe.
The record has not only taken Amanda back to her musical theatre roots, but sees her reflect upon her most cherished experiences of motherhood. Family has always been at the heart of Amanda’s music; the idea to create an album came about by chance after Amanda and her daughters recorded ‘Tightrope’ (from The Greatest Showman) for her husband, Chris, to mark their 10th wedding anniversary in 2018.
