It’s been a great year for the resurgent Altered Images. Clare Grogan saw their first album in 39 years, ‘Mascara Streakz’, power into the Top 30 with widespread critical acclaim and a subsequent packed UK headline tour. But there’s still time for more! Not only are Altered Images confirmed to play Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s show on December 3rd, but they will also release the new EP ‘Clara Libre’ on November 18th. The EP is today previewed by the new Cuban version of ‘See Those Eyes’.
Held at Stoke’s Victoria Theatre and broadcast live on Radio 2, Sounds of the 80s will feature performances from Altered Images and Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood fame. The show will be hosted by Gary Davies, who will present two specially curated mastermixes of ‘80s classics, and will open with a DJ set from Johnny Kalifornia. Tickets are available HERE.
Clare says, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of this live Sounds Of The 80s event. I love a big night out and this one has all the ingredients for being a belter! So dust off your party shoes, get your groove on and enjoy this special moment with us. I’ll be singing, dancing and swirling my hair around to some classic Altered Images. Hopefully I’ll miss out the falling off the stage bit which is also a bit of a classic ‘me’ moment!
The upcoming ‘Clara Libre’ EP reimagines four Altered Images classics in a new Cuban style, with Clare’s effortlessly elegant voice gracing laidback Latin American grooves and rumba rhythms. The new Cuban version of the 1982 hit ‘See Those Eyes’ is out today, and follows the recently revived version of their iconic fan favourite ‘Happy Birthday’. The EP will be completed by fresh takes on the Top 10 hits ‘Don’t Talk To Me About Love’ and ‘I Could Be Happy’. The original versions of the four featured songs have over 20 million streams between them
As well as Sounds of the 80s, there are another three major Altered Images performances to come before the year is out. Tomorrow night they will play at the Scottish Music Awards at Glasgow Barrowland, where Clare will receive the Sir Reo Stakis Foundation Living Legend Award. They then play a sold-out headline show at St. Luke’s, Glasgow, on December 16th, before ending 2022 on a high as special guests to Sophie Ellis-Bextor at Edinburgh’s Night Afore Disco Party at Princes Street Gardens on December 30th.
