Algiers release incendiary new single and accompanying video ‘Void’. The song, taken from the Atlanta group’s hotly anticipated third album, There Is No Year, released January 17th on Matador Records, was premiered by Adult Swim, as part of their Single Club series. ‘Void’ will also be available as a special flexi disc as part of the album vinyl package.
As immediately evident from its accompanying live video, recorded in the band’s home town of Atlanta, ‘Void’ is Algiers at their visceral, powerhouse peak – a three-minute adrenalin-surge of hypnotic and infectious breakneck punk rock, with Matt Tong’s thunderous drums, guitarist Lee Tesche’s distorted shards and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Mahan’s propulsive bass coming together around frontman Franklin James Fisher’s feverish recitation: “Got to find a way to get out of it!”
‘Void’ follows the release of first single ‘Dispossession’, which The Guardian described as “powered, as ever, by the soapbox preacher vocals of Franklin James Fisher, and amplified by portentous gospel backing vocals, the Atlanta group anthemically square up to oppression”, and The New York Times called “a hardheaded rallying cry.”
Algiers headline London’s Village Underground on February 5th, alongside stops in Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow and Leeds as part of their UK headline tour, before continuing to further European and North American dates. A full live itinerary can be found below the Blake Butler-penned bio, author of the novel There Is No Year, from which the album takes its name.
