On the Waterfront returns in 2025, and it’s shaping up to be their biggest year yet. Following a wave of headline announcements, we’re excited to reveal Thursdays headliner – The Wombats, taking the stage for their biggest hometown show to date on 19th June!

As one of Liverpool’s biggest musical exports over the last 20 years, The Wombats aka Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy, Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis, met as teenagers whilst studying at Liverpool Institute of Performing Art and emerged as leading lights of the late ‘00’s indie rock scene, with 2007 debut ‘A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation’ featuring hit singles ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’, ‘Moving to New York’ and ‘Kill the Director’, and over the years have maintained an incredible upward momentum.

Their 2011 electro flecked second album ‘This Modern Glitch’ established them as Top 10 chart regulars, whilst 2015’s ‘Glitterbug’ connected with a new generation of fans, especially through TikTok where ‘Greek Tragedy’ became a viral hit. By 2018, with the release of ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’ The Wombats were soon playing arenas and in 2022 scored their first Number 1 album ‘Fix Yourself, Not the world’. Despite their two-decade long career, their music continues to resonate with both loyal and younger audiences, proving their staying power.

Fans don’t have long to wait for their next fix, after a two year wait, their sixth album ‘Oh! The Ocean’ is set for release on 21st February 2025 followed by a UK Arena tour culminating in Liverpool for their biggest homecoming show to date on Thursday 19th June. Joining the bill are Pale Waves, Sawyer Hill plus more to be announced.

Commenting on their return, drummer Dan Haggis said “Hey Liverpool!! Think we’d forgotten about you?!! As if! We’re so excited to announce that we’re playing a huge hometown show, back where it all began, on the 19th June 2025!! The Mersey and Liver Buildings will provide the backdrop, we’ll provide the tunes. It’s going to be a special night full of new music from our upcoming 6th album and of course a load of old bangers…so grab yourself a ticket, polish up those dancing shoes and we’ll see you there!
