TotalNtertainment was pleased to grab some time with Sam Wilde ahead of the next #360RAW3 event in Leeds.
1. So, who is Sam Wilde?
I’m a Mancunian – now based in Leeds – singer, songwriter and musician who was gifted a name which I constantly have to try and live up to.
2. Describe your sound in less than ten words.
Queens of the Stone Age meets Radiohead at Zeppelin’s party.
3. How did you get involved with the #360RAW night?
Both Richard and Alan have really helped me out over the past couple of years. I had my first radio play and radio interview through Alan’s BBC Introducing West Yorkshire show and Richard has seriously helped me on the gig front. I’ve played some of my best shows at 360 Club, and he’s given me a lot of valuable advice. Richard called me asking if I was interested in getting involved in the #360RAW night and I was super excited. It’s a real pleasure to be asked to play such a big night!
4. What can we expect from your set?
Lots of hair being thrown around on stage, accompanied by big riffs, groovy bass lines and rocking drums. And probably an awful joke or a funny story.
5. What are your thoughts on the music scene in Yorkshire?
I love the scene in Yorkshire. It’s so diverse; you can be at acoustic singer songwriter gig one night, and the next night at a hardcore night in the same venue. I love how closely connected everyone is. Everyone is always willing to help other artists out. It’s becoming a great hub for new music with some class acts popping up. I think if it continues growing like it is, we’re going to be seeing some very successful bands coming out of Yorkshire.
6. What has been your most memorable local gig to date?
Hmm … probably the last show I played at 360 Club in January. It was the first one I’d played with my new band. We debuted some new material and everything went really smoothly. The crowd were loving it and it felt really good to be back playing with a band. It was the most fun I’ve had on stage in a while.
7. Are there any other upcoming Yorkshire acts that you think we should be checking out?
There are too many to name! But I’m digging what the guys in KOYO are doing and also a band called Velvit. They’ve got a new release out later this month which I’m really excited to hear.
8. Curveball Question: If you could be any animal in the world what would you choose and why?
Probably a monkey. Because they just eat all day and swing around trees. It sounds like something I’d enjoy.
9. What are your plans for the rest of 2018?
I’ve just finished recording a few more tracks which will be released later this year. Then I’m back in the studio with the band. And I think a UK tour might be on the cards, but we’ll have to wait and see.
