The Hanseroth Twins ‘Vera’ Album Review
The Hanseroth Twins are Phil and Tim Hanseroth, a pair who, from the early days would sit across from each other armed with their guitars singing to each other. Embracing this passion for honest, straight-from-the-heart music, the building bricks for their musical journey were set out in those early years. It’s a journey which has seen them become bandmates with American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and now, the release of their debut album as a duo, ‘Vera.’
Unsurprisingly then, given their love for honest, heartfelt music, that is exactly what you get when you hit play on ‘Vera.’ A set of gently played-out stories straight from the heart of these brothers. Exploring themes of fatherhood, life, loss, and the future, these thoughts, visions and stories play out to an Americana meets Indie meets Folk meets Country soundtrack. However, an album of this honesty only really works if the writers have a connection and throughout ‘Vera’, that musical and emotional connection couldn’t be more apparent.
Of course, aside from working with Carlile, working with a veritable Who’s Who of Country Music has helped the pair hone their songwriting skills to almost perfection but there is so much more to this record. Tracks like ‘Broken Homes’ and or the soaring strum of ‘A Little Respect’ are personal. Inspired by a poor childhood and divorcing parents where the brothers turned to each other and their music for support, the former is a track where this almost unbreakable bond they have really comes to the fore.
When talking about ‘Vera’, the pair have stated that, given their busy schedules with other work, they have no idea if there will be a follow-up. If that is sadly the case and this is the only time we get to hear the pair branch out, make sure you take the opportunity to soak up the music created by the unique connection this incredible pair of songwriters has.
