The Blessed Madonna ‘Godspeed’ Album Review
Choosing to listen to the pumped-up party beats of The Blessed Madonna’s debut album ‘Godspeed’ on a dreary, damp Wednesday night in October, almost feels like doing the album a disservice because, if you were to pick any condition perfect for soaking up ‘Godspeed’ in, drizzly Autumn evenings would not be it.
A veteran of the DJ scene, ‘Godspeed’ marks The Blessed Madonna’s first full length album and, for fans of high energy, party till you drop, feelgood dance/rave, then Godspeed will tick all of your boxes. From the moment the album pulsates into life, the next twenty-odd tracks are pure party bangers.
Clocking in at almost an hour and a half, be prepared for a stamina test. That being said, the kind of person who will be listening to this for the duration is someone who’d be on the dancefloor from the moment the clubs open on a Friday night and still going twenty-four hours later. As a warm-up for those big weekends out, ‘Godspeed’’s ninety minutes of big beats, huge hooks, and delicious melodies is almost the perfect appetizer.
DJ albums like this are often littered with collaborations and ‘Godspeed’ is no different. A raft of names from across the DJ world join in with the fun. Admittedly none of them mean anything to someone who hasn’t been in a dance club for nearly thirty years but, seeing a name like that of pop icon Kylie Minogue gracing the track list as she does with a guest vocal for “Edge of a Saturday Night”, means even I can appreciate how that shows the reach of someone like The Blessed Madonna.
As alluded to at the start, a wet Wednesday in October isn’t the right time or place to be soaking up the beats of ‘Godspeed’. However, stick it on straight after you leave work on a Friday night and you’ll be setting yourself up for a massive weekend. You’ll find me in my onesie with a Dominos and Netflix but thanks for the offer.
