Emerging North London singer-songwriter Mae Muller reunites with mega producer Jimmy Napes [Sam Smith, Disclosure, Mary J Blige] to release her latest single ‘Anticlimax’.
The soulful pop track once again exhibits Mae’s distinctive sound paired with her standout vocals drizzled over the stripped back melody as straight-talking Mae reminisces about her lucky escape from a past love and always being in control of her own self. Directed by India Sleem the accompanying video showcases Mae and her friends running around Kentish Town, the area of London she grew up in, and hanging out with the locals.
Talking about the new single Mae explains, “Anticlimax”is a feel-good song about a not so good situation. I wanted to capture that feeling of disappointment when you’ve liked someone for ages and then you finally end up giving it a go and it’s nothing like what you thought it would be! It all works out in the end though because it made me realise my worth and that I don’t have time for a time waster!”
Still only 21, the new releases follow on from the success of her previous EPs After Hours, Frankly and the online hit ‘Jenny’. Influenced by the likes of H.E.R and Julia Michaels, Mae describes music as her weapon. “I won’t write a sad song; I’ll write a bad bitch thing like ‘I’m going to mess your life up’. It’s my way of feeling strong”. Mae’s unfolding sound is quickly becoming affiliated with female empowerment, a common theme heard throughout her music, her sound always showcasing her London roots. Mae explains“North London shaped me as a person and as an artist”.
